The curriculum involves 700 hours to satisfy Nevada state requirements. The course educates prospective cosmetology teachers to address the needs of students in the classroom and the clinic floor. The prospective teachers learn to manage their thoughts with the system of forward-focused thinking by front-end coaching. By learning the methods of teaching cosmetology, the prospective teachers learn to engage students in the learning process and stimulate the discovery process with visuals, music, or hands on activities. Provisional Instructor / Student Instructor programs available to employees only.

Student’s are prepared to become an entry level instructor.

This course is taught in English.

Student Instructor Course Overview and Outline

Course Hours: 700 clock hours

Your time at Paul Mitchell The School Reno for the student instructor program will be divided into pre-clinical instruction and clinical service learning experiences.

  1. Pre-clinical classroom instruction: The first 125 hours are devoted to classroom workshops, where the students learns teaching principles, technical information and professional practices.
  2. Clinic Classroom Learning Experience: The remaining 575 hours are spent in the clinic area where practical experience is gained.

The institution offers employment assistance to help graduates’ efforts to secure education-related employment that includes, but is not limited to training in professionalism, resume’ development, job interview preparation and job search skills.

Student instructor program and testing grading procedures

The following tests and grading procedures are used to assess student learning and mastery of course content in the 700-hour course:

  1. Students must receive a grade of 75% or higher on each theory exam. Academic Theory exams cover a review of the Milady’s Master Educator Student Course book.
  2. Students must receive 75% or higher on each final exam; final exams cover a complete overview of the Milady’s Master Educator Student Course book.
  3. Students must receive 75% or higher on the practical exam, which covers the practical application of cosmetology procedures.

A = 90 – 100%.     B = 80 – 89%      C = 75 – 79%.     Failing = Below 75%

STUDENT INSTRUCTOR INSTRUCTIONAL TECHNIQUES AND METHODS

The Student Instructor 700 clock hour course is provided through a sequential set of learning steps which address specific tasks necessary for State Board preparation, graduation and job entry level skills. Clinic equipment, implements and products are comparable to those used in the industry. Each student will receive instruction that relates to the performance of useful, creative and productive career oriented activities. The course is presented through well-developed lesson plans that reflect the latest educational methods. Subjects are presented by means of lecture, demonstration, and student participation. Audio-visual aids, guest speakers, field trips, and other related learning methods are used in the course.
